Meet RoseAnne

Meet RoseAnne......she's an art doll created with a Julie Nutting doll stamp by Prima.  The stamp is available at eclectic Paperie.  RoseAnne's dress and hat were paper pieced.  I added black velvet ribbon at the waist and slightly gathered black lace at the hemline.  A black rhinestone at the neck completed her dress.  Her hat is a stamp by Mary Engelbreit.  I added tiny black half-pearls and some May Arts ribbon leaves and a tiny crocheted pink flower.  Roseanne's wings were cut from a piece of S.E.I. designer paper and glittered with some turquoise glitter glue.  A row of silk embroidered flowers and some black organza trim were added to the bottom of the tag.  The top of the tag was finished off with a scrapbook border of flowers by K & Co.

Go Fly a Kite

The Monday technique challenge on Splitcoaststampers is paper piecing...one of my favorites.  Dress and headband were paper pieced. Color choices were inspired by the kite background paper from the DCWV paper stack "Freshly Picked." Leaves were cut with a die by C C Designs. Edges were dusted with "Fizzy" fluorescent powdered chalk by Chalk-AH-Lot.  The doll stamp is one of the Prima stamps from Julie Nutting.

Venetian Masquerade

The Way to Use It challenge on Splitcoaststampers was "Masked Fun." I used a Venetian mask die and flourish by Spellbinders for my card. The B&W harlequin design seemed to go with the theme.  The stamp is from Stamp N Plus Scrap N.  It is not on the website but is part of this set of sentiments:

Let the Cat Out of the Bag

There's an Anything Goes chalk challenge over on the Chalk-AH-Lot Cafe blog.  It's past Halloween but this little Kitty Purr-y has decided that the empty trick-or-treat bag makes an excellent hide-out.  I cut some thin strips of a tan striped patterned paper and folded them in half.  I then colored the edges of the fold with a fluorescent orange chalk called Fizzy.  I also used this chalk to edge the cream colored panel that I stamped my image on.The stamp is an iris fold stamp by Stamp N Plus Scrap N and can be found HERE.  The orange background panel was dry embossed with a feather embossing folder and colored with Prismacolor pencils.

Hope you're still enjoying your trick-or-treat loot...............................Paulette

The card was made with a step card die by The Stamp Doctor. The gold square was cut with a Spellbinders die with a leaf design on the edges. I used a border from K&Co. as an embellishment.

Prima Doll in Red Polka Dress

The Way to Use It challenge on Splitcoaststampers is to use chipboard. I had the butterfly outline chipboard piece. It was already covered in silver glitter. I backed it with the same red polka dot paper that I used for her paper pieced dress.  The little silver flower at the top is also a chipboard piece.  The flowers are an embroidery applique.

Loverly Prima Doll Tag

This week's Splitcoaststampers Inspiration Challenge is to use the Loverly catalog: http://lover.ly/. My inspiration comes from this gift tag sticker: http://lover.ly/shop/stationery?page=6. The dress is paper pieced. I added lace and black rhinestones. The hat is a rhinestone sticker that I stuck to white cardstock and then fussy cut.  The lace and rhinestone flourish border is from Recollections.

"P" is for Puppy

This week's "Way to Use It" challenge is to take the first letter of our username (mine is Parknslide) and make a card using a theme, sentiment, words , or color that begin with that letter.

Parknslide comes from my grandchildren who nicknamed me Park-and-Slide Gramma because I was the one who took them to the playground every day.

The "P's" here include: puppy, pink, Prima Doll, pinafore, and paper piecing.

This card was made for PAT 27. The theme is the colors: white, silver and pink.

Sadie in the Yellow Hat

It's Inspiration Challenge day over on Splitcoaststampers.  The Bella Cottage catalog is to provide the inspiration.  My inspiration was this Sadie print. I referenced the color palette (only in softer pastels, the yellow hat with the pink flowers and the roses in the bottom right corner.

Hat was made with a Sizzix die, the flowers with an EK success border punch, the leaves with a C C designs die. I paper pieced the dress from the same paper as the background---cut from the left side of my DP. The butterflies were cut from a piece of satin ribbon.

Thinking of You Chalk Challenge #45

There's a Thinking of You challenge over on the Chalk-Ah-Lot blog.  I used one of the new Ardith Trumpy Stamps from Stamp N Plus.  The "thinking of you" sentiment is part of a set of sentiments and can be ordered by calling LuAnn at 1-715-271-1873.  The Powdered chalk is Foggy and can be found HERE.

The image was colored with Prismacolor pencils.  The background brick is embossed with a Tim Holtz embossing folder.  I used a black ink pad (direct-to-paper) to give the bricks definition.  I used a stylus to deboss the areas between the bricks to texture to the bricks in the image.  The "foggy" powdered chalk was used on the bricks in the stamped image and.  I stamped the sentiment with Barn Red Distress ink and cut it out with a Spellbinders large scallop die.  Before removing my die cut from the die I dusted the inside with "foggy" powdered chalk.  The leaves were cut with a die by C. C. Designs and the flowers were punched with a EK Success border punch.

The envelope on the bottom left is a sticker. The stamps on the right were cut with Cuttlebug dies.  The paper lace is from The Paper Dreams Factory.

There's No Place Like Home

The hostess of the current Julie Nutting Prima Doll stamp swap on Splitcoaststampers challenged us to create a project with the theme of "home." This quote from the Wizard of Oz came to mind. I did a bit of re-designing of the shoes and clothes to make my doll appear more Dorothy-like. The yellow brick road was dry embossed with a TH embossing folder. I swiped a Distress ink pad (Old Paper) over the yellow to create some definition on the bricks. The flowers have black stickles centers to give the illusion of the poppy field.

Batty for You

This stamp is from Stamp N Plus iris fold collection.  The stamp can be found HERE.  The guidelines are already on the stamp so that placing the strips is very easy to do. Instead of folded paper, I used a sparkly black organdy ribbon for my iris fold wings.  The bat was stamped with Black Stazon on silver metallic paper.  The background is a glittery card from DCWV and the trim is holeless sequins on a plastic mesh.

There's a challenge over at Eclectic Ellapu this week to create something inspired by a song.  This is a bit of a stretch by my song is the Theme from Batman.

Young Love ATC

There's an Artist Trading Card Challenge this week over on the Sweet Stamps Blog:  Challenge #134 .
One of the rules is that the submission must be new art created for the challenge.  I had just completed some calendar ATCs for a swap on Splitcoaststampers and had an extra set of images, some punched flowers and leaves as well as the yellow flowers cut from some silk ribbon and the bakers twine all sitting on my desk.  The red and yellow paper scraps were also left over from some previous project.

As a result I did some redesigning from my original calendar ATC, which was a Valentine for the month of February, and made this more generic ATC.  I'm thinking it could be added to an anniversary or congratulations or thinking of you card.  Or maybe I'll just keep it in case I need a spare for one of my ATC swaps.

Framed Christmas Kitty

There's a challenge over on Splitcoaststampers to use a frame.  I found this glittery gold die cut frame in my stash.  The patterned paper is Basic Grey.  The flowers were cut from a faux leather trim I got on clearance at JoAnns.  I added gold Stickles to the flower centers.  The pine branches made with a Martha Stewart punch.  The background cardstock is from a glittered DCWV pack.  The stamp is one of Patti"s Kids  X2808 and can be found in the Patti's Kids section of Stamp N Plus Scrap N.  Here's the website:  http://www.stampaffair.com/main.htm.   The stamp can be found HERE.

Phoebe and Kitty At the Fence

Stamp N Plus Scrap N has over 50 pages of Patti's Kids stamps.  The stamps with the cute kitties are my favorite.  I chose this image called "Phoebe and Kitty At the Fence."  I used some DCWV paper that was already decorated with gems.  The colors in the paper dictated my color palette.  I colored the image with Prismacolor pencils.  I added a bit of Crystal Effects to the tiny lady bug on Phoebe's hand and Kitty's neck charm and nose.  I added some Fruit Punch Stickles to give her tulips a "POP."  I fussy cut my image and glued it to a piece of blue paper.  The leaves were cut with a die by C. C. Designs.  The flowers were punched with a 2-step set of Nellie Snellen punches that punch out and emboss.  Some orange Stickles were used a flower centers.   A die-cut sparkly frame from my stash was used to frame the image.

Angel Love

I got this cute angel stamp for 25 cents at a garage sale. I used a technique to stamp and color directly on my patterned paper.  I used Versamark and gold embossing powder. I colored my image with Prismacolor pencils. For the base of the card I used a step card die by The Stamp Doctor. Branches are made from a die by C. C. Designs.  I used some Dresden trim on the side panels and a couple of Starform gold stickers on the wings. Added some shimmer to my angel's dress with a Stardust gel pen.  The pale pink dotted paper is by making memories and the other papers are DCWV.

Kumu Hula Shasta---Altered Paintbrush Challenge

electric Paperie is sponsoring an Mixed Media Paintbrush Challenge on their blog.  When I first read about the challenge I envisioned a hula girl in a grass skirt.  I roughed up the bristles to form the skirt.  I painted the brush handle with some wood refinisher stain in a cherry color to form the trunk of her palm tree.  The fronds were fashioned from a Cuttlebug die and embossing folder combo set.  An amber bead wrapped in coiled wire was used for the coconut.  I found the image of the hula girl on the internet.  Her lei was fashioned from tiny flowers I punched from a Punch Bunch corner punch.  I sculpted them a bit to add dimension and used yellow Stickles for the centers.  Her hair flower was punched and dry embossed with a set of Nellie Snellen punch & embosser.  The leaf was cut from a die cut made by a branch die by C. C. Designs.

I titled her Kuma Hula Shasta.  Kumu in Hawaiian means teacher.  Shasta is an amazing hula teacher who teaches hula to my daughter and granddaughter.  She is a very talented lady and highly respected member of the Midwest Hula Association.  She shares her talent and love of Hawaiian culture throughout Chicagoland and the Midwest.

Thanks for visiting my blog today...........Much Love & ALOHA,  Paulette

Botticelli's Birth of Venus---Mixed Media Paintbrush

electic Paperie is sponsoring a Mixed Media Paintbrush Challenge.  I used a rubber stamp image from Pink Cat Studio that is a stylized version of Botticelli's "The Birth of Venus" painting.  I colored Venus with Prismacolor pencils.  I used a Sakura "stardust" gel pen to color her hair ribbons.  A starfish charm and some tiny seashells adorn her hair.  The brush handle was painted with Liquitex Soft Body acrylic paint in Phthalocyanne Green.  Emerald Extreme Glitter Acrylic Paint by Plaid was painted over the top to add shimmer.  For the bristles I mixed together some of the green Soft Body with some Liquitex Interference Gold paint and some Martha Stewart Glitter paint in Turquoise.  On the bottom of the bristles I added some shells and a wave cut from some K&Co. scrapbook borders and some seashells and pearls.  I strung tiny shells, beads and pearls on wire and wrapped them on the handle.  At the very top I added a shell charm.  The tag was stamped with "Goddess" (also by Pink Cat Studio) with Versamark and heat embossed.  Tag was cut with a Spellbinders die and edged with a gold leaf Krylon pen.  I added fibers in colors that reflect the colors in the design.

Blue Bird B'day

This card was made for last Monday's Splitcoaststampers challenge Try a New Technique. The technique is called "Freestyle Design." It felt so good to use up all the lovely scraps hanging out on my craft table. The technique involves taking random scraps, embellies, stickers, etc. and arranging them, usually in an asymmetrical design. I think of it as Serendipitous Collage.

The "Happy Birthday!" stamp is part of a set of Stamp N Plus stamps.  The set is not up on the website yet but can be ordered by calling LuAnn at 715-271-1873.

There is a subtle polka dot design on the pale blue paper scrap and this fits with the Simon Says Monday Blog challenge.  You can find this challenge HERE

I made this card for a Pick a Theme swap. The theme is "Yoga." Image and letters are from the internet. The lotus patterned background is a wallpaper sample. Freshly Picked

I won a FB drawing sponsored by DCWV several weeks ago. The prize included new paper packs that debuted at CHA. My card features a pack called "Freshly Picked." I cut out the logo from the front cover of the pack to use as my focal point. I used a pumpkin colored paper from DCWV's Creamy pack as a background and cut the step card out using a die from The Stamp Doctor. The panels were cut from one of the papers in the Fresh Picked pack. I think the colors are quite close to those described in this Tuesday's color challenge. A die cut branch (Sizzix) and some flowers from Michaels $1.50 bin and a silk butterfly from a yellow ribbon complete the design. I made this card to send to DCWV as a thank you. Inside it says "Thanks for picking me."

Cupcakes Are a Food Group

This stamp is from Stamp N Plus Scrap N's Sarah's Scribbles.  It was designed by LuAnn's talented daughter, Sarah.  I made this card for a challenge on the Chalk-Ah-Lot Cafe blog.  This is Challenge #42 and requires using a food theme with chalk.  Not sure if the food pyramid is still a valid guide to nutrition but I absolutely believe that cupcakes are an essential food group.  The chalks I used were:  Blush, Peach,Foggy, Frisky, Dandy, Mulberry, Passion and Jade.  You can purchase the chalks HERE.  The base of the card is from the DCWV Creamy stack and was cut into a step-card with a die by The Stamp Doctor.  Green layer is also DCWV paper.  The cupcake designer paper comes from the Lime Twist pack by My Mind's Eye.  Some green rhinestones and a green felt flower complete my design.

I think I'll go bake some cupcakes now...........Paulette

Sunny Day on Flamingo Beach

Today's challenge on Splitcoaststampers is to use SUN RAYS on your card or project. The sun is a chipboard daisy overlaid with a yellow button and some fibers. The palm tree was dry embossed with a Darice folder. I colored it with Prismacolor pencils and added some brown Stickles to the coconuts. The flamingo is paper pieced. The flowers were made with a Punch Bunch flower punch. The background is part of a piece of DCWV paper. The paper was a beach scene so that embossed, sparkly sand was already done for me. Sentiment is CTMH.

Hope you are out enjoying this warm, sunny August day.

I've Been Published!

Extra!  Extra!  Read all about it...I've been published in Just Steampunk!, Volume 3!!!  I have a whole page with 5 cards (p. 84) in the Paper Arts section and a framed doll (p. 62) in the Home Decor section.
So exciting to see my name and artwork in a magazine!

Here are my cards.  They were all done with stamps from the Graphic 45 collection by Hampton Art Stamps.  Papers are from DCWV and Scrap Club.

Here's "Betty Blue."

I call this one "Time Flies."

                                                            " Clockworks in Blue"

                                                                   "Elegant Lady"

                                                                   "Myopic Bird"

My framed doll, I called "Miss Steampunk Stella."  She is featured on p. 62 of the Home Decor section.  She was made from jewelry from St. Vinney's.  Her hands are an old, clip-on sweater guard that was popular in the '50s.  Her dress is a brooch I bought for 50 cents and her legs are earring parts.  The face was a left-over from my Michaels cruise.  The wooden frame was $1 at Michaels.  I painted it with some metallic acrylic paints and added some drywall tape patches that I colored black with gesso.  I also did some stenciling through punchinella.
