Butterfly Birthday

The color challenge this week on Splitcoaststampers is to use these three colors.  This color palette makes me dream of a sunny beach in the Caribbean as the wind chills of the Polar Vortex continue to pummel the Midwest.

Yellow circle was cut out using a Spellbinders Butterfly Circle die. Flowers and leaves were cut with Marianne Creatables dies. Butterfly was cut using a Sizzix die. Tiny flowers were made with a Punch Bunch corner punch. Orange Peel Stickles were added to the butterfly and the flower centers.
Hoping you are staying warm and dreaming of Spring!

Collage Musings

This week on Splitcoaststampers the source for inspiration is an Etsy site of Prayer Journals.  I was inspired by several of the designs and made two cards using papers from the DCWV paper stack.

For this week's Inspiration Challenge I chose this journal cover: http://www.etsy.com/listing/13011756...home_active_39
Elements that contributed to my inspiration were the flowers and butterfly, the color palette and the subtle patterned background. The DCWV Collage Musings paper pack was used to create this card.  The sentiment is a Close to My Heart stamp.

I used the same DCWV paper pack and CTMH stamp set.  I used the color palette, the flower spray and the butterfly from this journal as my inspiration.  The prayer journal that inspired my design:  http://www.etsy.com/listing/52936796/journal-notebook-prayer-journal?ref=shop_home_active_3

Green is the Color of Hope

The January eTeam Picks Challenge over on the eclectic Paperie blog is to design something with HOPE as the theme.  I wanted to use this cute stamp from Crafty Individuals.  It's part of a set of 4 stamps called "Pretty Girls."

I did some research on what color is used to symbolize HOPE and in most cultures that color is green.  I chose some green patterned paper from DCWV as background, stamped the image on a piece of DCWV patterned paper with a faint musical note design.  This was mounted on a mat of dark green corrugated paper.  The image is colored with Inktense colored pencils.

To me the butterfly is also a symbol of hope as it changes from a caterpillar into a butterfly.  For embellishment I added a lace butterfly.  I used some Stickles to define its body.  Other embellishments are a dotted swiss white ribbon, 2 paper daisies and 3 green half pearls.

Here's hoping from an end to this bitter cold winter...Paulette

Color Challenge Flip Flops

As the Polar Vortex Part II bears down on the Midwest, I imagine a hot Summer day or a tropical vacation.  Nothing says warm weather like a pair of flip flops---my go-to footwear for the entire Summer.

This week's color challenge on Splitcoaststampers is a light & a dark shade of pink plus a green.  This is one of my favorite color palettes.

Hope you're thinking warm thoughts....................Paulette

Valentine Dolly

I've accepted an offer to be guest designer for eclectic Paperie for the month of February.  My box of goodies from the eclectic Paperie shop came today.  They have a design challenge every month and January's challenge is to use HEARTS in your design.  You can find all the challenge submissions for January HERE.

I used some of my new products from eP as well as other items that eP carries in their shop.  The Julie Nutting Prima doll was paper pieced from a new paper collection by Authentique called "Smitten."  The playing cards are also from the "Smitten" paper pack.  Besides the doll stamp and  the "Smitten" paper , other items carried by eP that were used on my card are Scor-Tape to attach the lace ruffle, Zip-Dry paper glue and Scotch Foam Mounting Tape to pop up the middle playing card.  I watched a webcast yesterday by Julie Nutting and she suggested sponging the edges of the doll with brown ink.  For this I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink Pad---Old Paper and an Inkssentials Blending Foam Replacement Pad.  These items are also available at eP.
The background papers are from DCWV, the flower in the doll's hair is hand-crocheted.  Some rhinestone bling completes my design.

Bird of Paradise

This challenge is to Pay It Forward 2014 and make and send a card to someone who might need a lift. My BFF from HI was visiting me for 6 weeks this Fall and she brought me the index pages from a bunch of 2013 Hawaiian calendars to re-cycle into cards. It's going in the mail tomorrow. My sentiment and note for the inside will be on a Post-It so that she in turn can pay it forward to someone else.

Much Aloha..........................Paulette

It's 2014

A BFF has a birthday on Jan. 1st.  I made this card to send to her on her birthday.  The step card was made with a die by The Stamp Doctor.  The star paper is by Darcie & the sparkle silver & red paper is by DCWV.  The snow flakes were cut with a Marianne Creatables die and nestled in with the flakes on the left is a rhinestone snowflake.  I found the vintage New Years card online and printed it twice.  The Jan. 1 and her head, arm and muff were cut out of the 2nd copy and popped up in dimensionals.

Happy Birthday, Deb Moon & Happy New Years to You All
Love, Paulette

Happy Holidays!

My Christmas card for 2013.  The photo was taken aboard the Celebrity Millennium on my 17-day cruise Nov. 20th to Dec. 7th.  We cruise from Sydney to Singapore.  My favorite ports were in Bali & Singapore.  It was the trip of a lifetime but late Spring in that part of the world, the heat and humidity were oppressive.

Wishing you all a belated Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
